Welcome to Life on a Plate! As I look back at the year that's passed I sometimes cannot believe the big changes that have happened to my otherwise steady existence. This time last year, I was back in my office in Manila tying up loose ends as I was getting ready to move away from my comfort zone to join my husband in Adelaide, South Australia.
My life in Manila was fantastic! I have a great family, my best friends in the whole world and a career in interior design beginning to take shape. I worked as an interior designer for the last 10 years, the last 4 in my own practice that I shared with friends. But as life was taking shape for me back home, my husband was starting his as well in Adelaide. When we decided to take things to the next level and start our married life together, it was decided that this big start would happen here, in South Australia. We were excited by the opportunities and stability Australia could provide. So after a great wedding and a few months of waiting for my visa to work out - here I am - blogging from our bedroom in our city apartment.
I'm sure that just like most of you reading this, when you look back at the big and small moments that define your life, you can associate a dish or two that made things that bit more special. Food is such a big part of any Filipino's day! We live for our morning coffee, office lunches, after work dinners and weekend getaways. We are notorious for our long list of non-working holidays and long weekends! Every birthday, graduation, work promotion, favorable report card is never over looked. Feasts big and small can be witnessed from food courts, sidewalk hawker stalls, restaurants and homes. My family is no exception - we love to eat and we love to travel! There is nothing better than going to a new place and finding something fantastic!
So here I am - in Adelaide - one big place that's something new - so with my husband in tow, we start exploring! I am no chef, food critic or nutritionist - I am just a foodie, out to have a good time with my friends and family. In my first 9 months here we have discovered great places and memorable dishes - and are ready to find more. Join me in this food trip around Adelaide...Australia and the world!
For now, I'll be working backwards and will be posting from our previous finds but once that's all set up - I'll be sure to post my discoveries and new offerings from our favorites as they come.
That's it for now!
Sharlyn
Hey! Nice to see you've started a blog! :-) Just keep the dishes--er, the thoughts coming! Hehe.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Yelle
hey marielle! how fast you found me! will be posting the good stuff soon:-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea, Shar! Jim has discovered how much Filipinos love to eat. In the beginning he was quite shocked at how many different entrees are served at a meal or at a party. He's used to 1 or 2 at most! We've been enjoying experimenting in our kitchen, and we just came back from endless buffets and eating at cafes/restuarants on our anniversary cruise around the Southern Caribbean islands. Our bellies show it! (Or as Mart would say, "My stomach is distended and my breathing is shallow!") Let us know if you'd like to come over and explore some restaurants in New York City!
ReplyDeleteHi Cherilyn! Yes - we do like our options...having a mini buffet in our plate makes us happy. Happy Anniversary! The cruise to the Caribbean sounds lovely. I'm sure you had great meals on your trip. We would love to go back to New York! I crave pastrami & cheesecake from Carnegie Deli, Grey's Papaya hotdogs and Magnolia Bakery Cupcakes!!! Hopefully we find ourselves there soon so that we can go exploring together - sounds like a good holiday to me! :-)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your new blog! Your reviews will surely be a great help to fellow foodies out there, myself included! :-)
